Infertility and The Causes Behind It

As a woman, there is of nothing as painful as being unable to bear children especially when it is all you desire. Such a heartbreaking and helpless the situation causes a lot of stress and even goes to the extent of depression. The trauma and stigma of infertility can be quite the burden to bear and this explains the increasing number of fertility clinics. This number also shows the increasing number of infertility patients seeking for help and calls for further investigation into the matter. Painful as it may be, every problem has a cause and explanation and this one is no exception. As the number of fertility consultations increase, extensive research has been done into the issue and possible explanations given for each unique scenario. Having this information can be enlightening and might even help to solve some of the issues that might be the root of the problem.

The number one reason for infertility is hormonal irregularities. Late, irregular, skipped and even multiple periods in a month are all situations that can explained by hormonal imbalances. Reproductive hormones are affected by this irregularity hence the infertility issues. The hormonal imbalances also happen when the secreting glands are infected and therefore unable to perform well. Speaking of hormonal imbalances, another closely related cause for infertility is polycystic ovary syndrome. In this particular case, the hormonal imbalance causes the formation cysts in the ovaries, which affects their normal functioning. This causes irregular periods and sometimes no periods for some time. With irregular periods, the probability of becoming pregnant decreases and even grows close to zero without periods.

Infertility is also caused by a condition called endometriosis where the uterus is formed in other places. With this condition, the uterus may form in the ovaries or the fallopian tube. This makes it dangerous and unconducive for the baby to develop and also becomes a cause for pain in most women. The fallopian tube might also get blocked and therefore reduce the chances of pregnancy close to nothing. Thankfully, this condition can be treated by doing a surgery or taking medication. Similar to endometriosis, sexually transmitted infections also cause inflammation of the fallopian tube and may end up causing blockage as well. It is therefore prudent and critical to test for such infections when attempting to get pregnant so that any possible risks can be averted. Obesity and being overweight are the other causes of infertility. Technically you may be able to conceive but carrying the baby to term may be a problem because the chances of miscarriages in overweight individuals are higher. This also explains the issues of age and infertility.
